Fall Festival of Bands is held in Medina, which receives 74.75 points.
The Medina Mustang Marching Band took the field toward the end of Saturday's Fall Festival of Bands, tallying 74.75 points in the annual event it hosts.
The 12-band festival is one of the largest shows in the state this year, though it hasn't been in recent years, said the band's music arranger, Joe Organisciak.
"We were lucky enough to recruit a lot of bands to the show. In turn, we're going to their home shows throughout the season," he said.
The Festival of Bands brings local field bands to Medina and also helps as a fundraiser, Organisciak said.
"There's a large Buffalo contingent in Erie County and then there's the other side, which is really Monroe County," he said. "We get into Central New York as well, near Syracuse."
Medina was second to Central Square (77.35 points) in Small School 1. The other results were as follows: National, Lancaster 78.60; Large School 2, Webster 80.75, Orchard Park 79.50, Jamestown 78.30 and West Seneca 76.55; Large School 3, Greece 75.35 and Hilton 70.50; Small School 2, Northwestern 73.20, Oswego 72.60; Small School 3, Pioneer, 66.6.
The festival is part of the New York State Field Band Conference season.
"Medina is the only competitive field band in Orleans County. I don't believe there are any competitive field bands in Genesee County right now," Organisciak said.
The music arranger said there used to be competitive field bands in both counties, but it's been a long time since that was the case.
"Any school district that has a marching band program that wants to do this fall activity ie eligible to do that. To join the conference, I believe there is at least one probationary year ... and then after that, they can continue to participate in the conference."

"Earlier on, it allows us to get some critique from the judges. We get judges' sheets as well as recordings from each of our musical and visual judges," Organisciak said. "Getting that feedback early on in the season allows us to make larger decisions if we need to make any large, creative decisions. It allows us to see our competition early as well. Central Square is in our class and last weekend we saw East Irondequoit, who's in our class." new balance 990 vs ultra boost
